So, as the most recent starter at Launch Group I should really still be classed as ‘the newbie’. Pleasantly this isn’t so. In fact, I pretty much felt like I’d been here for years by week two and I mean that in the best possible way. Having worked at various agencies during my PR career I can honestly say that when I joined Launch it was like no other place I’d worked before. From day one I was made to feel like one of the team and was soon drinking in the legendary Lyric on a Friday night with the best of them.
Six months on, despite waiting for people to relax and reveal their true selves – and you’re probably expecting some juicy bitching and gossiping at this point – nobody has turned into a crazy Ab-Fab PR-style monster. I know! Unbelievable, but true. The team here is just that, a true team and it’s fantastic to work with people you can rely on and who all pitch in to get the best for our clients, the agency and each other. At the risk of sounding like a total loser I’m going to stop ‘Launch loving’ at this point – I regularly get told off by my friends for being far too smug about my new job so I’ve had to keep a lid on it recently.
Actually, not everyone is super nice here and thinking about it I have experienced some light bullying. I’ll mention no names but there are certain people of the male species who take far too much pleasure in laughing about the fact that I bear a slight resemblance to a certain comedian. The picture might give it away at this point…
Over the past six months, apart from taking part in a cake war (I’ll save that one for next time), social events, comedian-related bullying and Friday nights down the pub, I have of course done some work. My biggest project at the moment is the launch of the new Ocean Hotel at Butlins in Bognor Regis. All very exciting and I obviously can’t reveal too much but let’s just say it’s a brilliant project to work on. A recent trip to Bognor Regis for an update on the hotel’s progress was an absolute joy. Having last visited the Minehead Resort when I was about five I really had no idea what to expect and have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Great accommodation, excellent entertainment, and general all-round fun. Fantastic! Following our meeting and as a reward for our hard work we treated ourselves to a delicious hot doughnut before a walk around the hotel. Although not finished until August I have to say I was impressed – stylish rooms, a bar overlooking landscaped gardens and (the best bit) a brilliant spa! Let’s just say it’s a far cry from the old image of Butlins and I’d defy anyone to not want to take a weekend break there.
So the next few weeks are going to be mega busy but fun. I’ll no doubt be back with a full update when the Ocean Hotel opens in August, but until then you’ll just have to wait until all of our lovely coverage starts appearing to find out about the fab facilities at the hotel and spa.
The downside? Some truly dodgy headgear and having to wear size 11 steel top-capped boots – cue second picture above…
